Road Base


Road Base is a crushed blue/grey rock ranging from 20mm in size down to dust. The smaller rocks and dust help to compact the Road Base down hard to give you a firm stable surface to work with. Our Road Base’s are sourced locally and range from a CBR 45 or higher, which stands for the ‘California Bearing Ratio’ and refers to the strength of the rock itself. The type of CBR rating will depend on each individual job.

When compacted properly, 100mm of road base can compact down to 75-80mm. For the best compaction make sure the material is wet, this makes sure the fines combine tightly with the aggregate.
